Apr 10, 2019
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team suffered another loss on Wednesday night, dropping a CCIW contest to Elmhurst, 22-1.
On a cold, windy night, it took a while for either offense to get going, with neither team scoring for nearly the first nine minutes of action until Elmhurst broke through first with 6:05 remaining in the first quarter. Elmhurst scored six more goals over the final 4:30 of the first quarter to put the Spartans in a 7-0 hole after the opening quarter
The Spartans took advantage of a double penalty by the Blue Jays, which sent two guys to the box in the early minutes of the second quarter. Michael Jango one-timed a pass from Ben Gallagher and got the Spartans their first goal of the game, 2:26 into the second quarter.
Elmhurst quieted the Spartan offense from that point forward, holding UD scoreless for the final 42:34, including five more UD man-advantage opportunities
The two Spartan goalies combined for 18 saves, 15 of which were by the starter, Ryan Gartner and the final three by Ryan Nemeth.
The Spartans now hit the road for two straight road contests, beginning on Saturday at Carroll University, where game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
