Box Score

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team snapped a losing skid with a dominating, 18-8 win over conference foe, Carroll.

The Spartans fell behind early, but got back-to-back goals from Michael Jango in the final two minutes of the first quarter to go into the second frame all tied at two.

Gavin Hughes and Davis Behrns wasted little time giving the Spartans the lead in the second quarter, pushing the Spartans ahead 4-2 with 9:45 to play before half. A Carroll goal would get the Pioneers back within one but UD would score three goals over a 2:34 span to go ahead 7-3.

The flood gates would open in the second half for the Spartans, as they would pour on seven of the first eight goals of the half to blow the game wide open at 14-5. The UD offense would not slow down in the fourth quarter, scoring five goals, three of which came from Gavin Hughes to cap off his impressive six goal performance.

Three other Spartans had at least three goals along with Hughes, Dominic Mulcahy was next with four and Michael Jango and Ben Gallagher both ended the day with hat tricks of their own.

UD dominated nearly every statistical category, beginning with shots with a 57-36 margin. The Spartans collected 34 more ground balls than the Pioneers and went 22-28 on clear attempts.

Ryan Gartner got the start in the net for UD and collected eight saves over his three quarters of action in the net. Samuel Kopecky closed out the game in the fourth quarter, corralling two saves in 15 minutes.

UD is right back on the road on Wednesday, April 17th at 4:00 p.m. when they travel to conference leader, Illinois Wesleyan.
