STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men’s basketball team traveled to Storm Lake on Saturday, where they were tripped up by Buena Vista, 83-61.

It was a slow start for both teams as it took nearly three minutes for the first basket to be made when Marcus McDaniel drilled a three. The two teams traded threes on the next couple possessions and Buena Vista’s first four baskets would come from beyond the arc to get the early 12-11 lead over UD. The two teams stayed within at least six points of each other until the Beavers slowly began to pull away late in the first half after an 8-0 run and closed the half on a 16-5 run to send the Spartans into the locker room down 14.

UD fell behind by as many as 20 with 14:18 remaining in the game. The Spartans were able to get the deficit down to 11 points after an 8-0 run over a 2:30 span to trail by 11 with 8:26 left in the game. However, UD ran out of gas and could not get closer than 10 points for the remainder of the game.
