Eniola and Murfin Honored by A-R-C

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Two UD track and field members began the 2018-19 season by earning American Rivers Conference Track and Field - Field Athletes of the Week after helping the Spartans win the 2018 Dubuque Championships.

Senior Blaze Murfin (Dallas City, Ill./Illini West) picked up right where he left off after a record breaking and national champion spring season. Murfin won the shot put and weight throw in dominant fashion. In the shot, all four of his throws that were not fouls, would have won the event but on his last thorw of the afternoon he launched a throw of 16.92m/55-06.25. In the weight throw no one came within two meters of Murfin as he won with a throw of 18.88m/61-11.50 and the second place finisher had a toss of 16.52m/54-02.50. This is the sixth time Murfin has been honored as Men’s Indoor Track and Field – Field Athlete of the Week.

Vanessa Eniola (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) did a little bit of everything in her first collegiate meet for the Spartans over the weekend to help give UD the team title and earn A-R-C Women Track and Field – Field Athlete of the Week. On Friday night, Eniola participated in the women’s pentathlon, finishing second place after totaling 2974 points over the course of the five events. On Saturday, Eniola took home silver in the long jump after jumping 5.33m/17-06.00, finishing just .22 meters behind the winner. She also qualified for the finals in the 55m hurdles and racked up eight total team points for UD.
