DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's lacrosse captured their first CCIW win at home on Saturday after a 15-11 win over the Elmhurst College Blue Jays on Oyen Field.
Both teams would battle less than ideals conditions in Dubuque with rain and a strong 20-35 mph N-NW wind playing havoc. Kori King led the Spartans with six goals, Claire Carlson added four with Breann Tjaarda having three and Cassandra Berger and teammate Rachel Stanley with one goal. Tjaarda led in the circle with nine draw controls and she casued three tunovers. Defensively UD's Berger and Carlson would each finish with four caused turnovers.
Elmhurst led in ground balls 24-19, but were out shot 30-25. The Blue Jays were 16-16 in clears and UD ended the afternoon 17-21. Keeper Kaley Weir earned the win after stopping eight shots. UD scored on 15-30 shot attempts.
The Spartans (6-4 overall and 1-2 in CCIW) travel to play Augustana College on April 18 at 7:00 p.m. and at North Central College on April 21 at 4:00 p.m. Senior Day for the Spartans will be on Saturday, April 28 vs. Illinois Wesleyan University at 1:00 p.m. on Oyen Field.
