Softball Lose at Wartburg, Prepare for Busy Week

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team busy schedule didn't slow down on Sunday as the Spartans would play their sixth Iowa Conference game in three days. The Spartans lost game one to Wartburg 0-3, but rallied in game two to fall just short, in a hard fought loss 3-4.

Unfortunately for the Spartans the schedule continues this week with a home doubleheader vs. Coe College (17-11 overall, 5-3 in IIAC) on Tuesday, April 24, a road doubleheader at Buena Vista University (20-12 overall, 5-7 in IIAC) on Wednesday, April 25, and a home doubleheader on Saturday, April 28 vs. Central College (23-7 overall, 8-2 in IIAC) on Senior Day.

Entering their final regular week of the season, sophomore Taylor Allard leads the offense batting .426 and slugging .564 with a team high 20 RBI's. Junior Brandy Heraty traile with a batting average of .326 and a slugging percentage of .438 with a dozen RBI's. Defensively is where the Spartans have struggled in 2018, committing 71 errors this season. 

On the mound, the starting duo of senior Taylor Blair and freshman Mackenzie Kopp have done the share of the pitching with Blair tossing 81.1 innings for an ERA of 4.65 and Kopp 89 innings for an ERA of 4.33. The pair appear in 17 games each and have combined to throw 67 strikeouts while allowing just 56 walks. Blair has thrown 10 complete games including one shutout.
