Norris Leads Spartans in IIAC Season Opener

The University of Dubuque conference season opener started a bit slow for the Spartans as the visiting Central College Dutch jumped out to a 12 point lead in the opening five minutes of action. The Spartans would rally back to capture a halftime 35-32 lead. The Spartans stretched out their lead to 16 points as time wound down for the 79-63 victory on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center.

Department of Fine and Performing Arts presents Dinner à la Morte: Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre

University of Dubuque theatre students will present Dinner à la Morte, a murder mystery dinner theatre production, Saturday, January 31, 2015 and Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the University’s Babka Black Box Theatre, located in Heritage Center. The production will be directed by adjunct professor Molly Hoefflin of Die Laughing Players, Dubuque’s interactive theatre expert.

2nd Annual Dubuque High Schools Juried Art Show at the University of Dubuque

The University of Dubuque’s Bisignano Art Gallery located within Heritage Center, will open its next exhibition, Dubuque High Schools Juried Art Show, on Thursday, January 8 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. The exhibition highlights works juried by high school art teachers from Dubuque Senior High School, Hempstead High School, and Wahlert High School. The 14 works in the show are in various media including ceramics, painting, photography, pen and ink, multimedia, and weaving.

Rivera Pins Down IIAC Award After Dominant Weekend

Spartan senior and team captain, Nicholas Rivera, finished a perfect 3-0 by the combined score of 32-8 at the University of Chicago Duals last Saturday to earn the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Wrestler of the Week award.

The University of Dubuque wrestling team returned to action in 2015 by competing in the competitive University of Chicago Duals on Saturday. The Spartans lost the opening dual to St. John's 21-30, beat Harper in the second round 27-15, and capped off the busy afternoon with a narrow defeat to #2-ranked Wabash 15-24. Senior captain Nic Rivera at 133 lbs. completed the afternoon with a perfect 3-0 record as freshman teammate Dominic Sterr finished 2-0 at 197 lbs.

UD to Host Dubuque Area Youth Leadership Council’s Character Development Day

On Wednesday, April 8, the University of Dubuque’s Wendt Center for Character Education will host the Dubuque Area Youth Leadership Council’s (DAYLC) Character Development Day from 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. One hundred high school juniors from schools throughout the Dubuque area will attend the event, where they will learn about leadership, values, character development, and making ethical decisions.

Human Rights Expert to Discuss Torture in the 21st Century

Dr. Michelle Farrell from the University of Liverpool will discuss “Torture in the 21st Century Liberal Democracy” in a lecture on Wednesday, April 8, at 5:00 p.m. in Blades Chapel on the University of Dubuque campus. Farrell’s lecture is sponsored by the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights and the University of Dubuque’s Honors Program.

UD Social Justice Class to Hold Third Annual Debate

On Thursday, May 7, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., the University of Dubuque’s Honors Program will hold the third annual Social Justice Debate in Heritage Center’s John and Alice Butler Hall. The intent of the debate is to illuminate two controversial topics. Students will engage in parliamentary-style debating, which involves alternating rounds and audience participation. Doors open at 5:30; the public is encouraged to attend this open event.

UD Bestows Honors

Thursday, April 30, the University of Dubuque bestowed high student, faculty, and staff honors upon six individuals and one student organization at the 2015 Honors Convocation at Heritage Center. The Student of the Year Award, University Leadership Award, Senior Academic Athletic Award, Student Organization of the Year Award, Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award, Faculty of the Year Award, and Staff of the Year Award,were announced at the conclusion of the ceremony.
