UD Hosts Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Economic Development Director

The University of Dubuque is pleased to welcome Dr. Marva Williams, economic development director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, who will speak on Wednesday, February18, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center. Her remarks are titled Is this Heaven? The Reality of African-American Interstate Migration. The event is free and open to the public.

Brinker Shines and Winters Wins as Pair Collects IIAC Player of the Week Awards

Emily Brinker came off the bench and erupted for 29 points in 35 minutes in a pair of wins for the University of Dubuque women’s basketball team while Ernest Winters claimed his second 60 meter dash victory of the year as the University of Dubuque men’s track & field team won the Cornell Hilltop Invite. Both Brinker and Winters garnered UD’s third straight Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Female Athlete of the Week and Male Track Performer of the Week, respectively.

Throwers Power Spartan Women’s Track and Field to First Title

Led by Nicole Forson’s victory in the women’s weight throw, the University of Dubuque women’s track and field throwers captured three of the Top-5 performances in both throwing events to lead UD to the Cornell Hilltop Invite title on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans (131 points) beat out four other teams by 18 points, including the lone Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) foe, Simpson College, who finished third with 98 points.

The University of Dubuque men's basketball team led for 33:38 of the 40 minutes on Saturday and dominated the Iowa Conference match-up over the Loras College Duhawks 83-57. The Spartans led by 17 points at halftime and extended that lead to 27 points in the second half to improve to 15-4 overall and 6-3 in the IIAC and moved to within two games of the conference lead.

Nicholas Rivera captured a fall as time was expiring in the first period of the 133 lbs. match in 2:48. Kody Krenz won by fall in the 149 lbs. weight class in 4:31.

The University of Dubuque men's basketball team needed a road win Wednesday night, but the host Coe College Kohawks wanted to maintain their spot at the top of the Iowa Conference. The Spartans rallied from a slow start, foul trouble, and cold shooting, but fell short to the Kohawks 63-69 to suffer their third IIAC loss of the season.

The University of Dubuque wrestling team has a busy Iowa Conference week. Thursday night the #30-ranked Spartans (7-10 overall in dual meets) faced the #16-ranked Luther College Norse (10-6 in dual meets) and came up short 9-30. Freshman Joey Cisneros gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead after winning the 125 lbs. match in overtime 5-3. Elton Turnage-Manuel battled to a 3-2 victory at 174 lbs. and Dominic Sterr earned the 3-2 decision at 197 lbs.

The Iowa Conference are hosting team duals in two locations on Saturday. The Spartans travel to #1-ranked Wartburg and will wrestle Central College at 10:00 a.m., Buena Vista at 12:00 p.m. and finish with the hosts Wartburg College at 2:00 p.m. In Indianola, Simpson College host Coe College, Luther College, and Loras College.

Wrestling Hold Pioneers Scoreless in Dual Meet

The University of Dubuque wrestling team left no dispute about the victor in Thursday night's dual meet at UW-Platteville. The match began at 141 lbs. and the Spartans Stephen Rosenburg opened the meet with a 12-2 major decision. The Pioneers wrestled well, but it was a total Spartan domination as they rolled off 10 consecutive wins to capture the meet 41-0.
