Junior Andre Norris and senior Jenna Kotas both earned the Iowa Conference (IIAC) Athlete of the Week for their respective University of Dubuque men’s and women’s basketball programs after their performances last week against Buena Vista and Luther. The pair were joined by Fabiola Ortiz, DuVaun Goodlow, and Amanda Sinkler, who each earned IIAC track performer of the week honors for their performances at the UD Spartan Invite on Saturday.

The Gretel Project

Four award-winning artists will collaborate with the University of Dubuque Fine and Performing Arts Department to present The Gretel Project, Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m., in the Babka Black Box Theatre in the University of Dubuque’s Heritage Center. The event is a multimedia immersive experience that invites the audience to reimagine the world through the eyes of Gretel--the heroine of the famous fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. The Gretel Project is free and open to the public, but tickets are required through the Farber Box Office.
Winters and the Underclassmen Impress at UD Spartan Invite

Freshman Ernest Winters won the 200 meters and posted the ninth-fastest 200 meters (22.22) in the country and fellow classmate Alec Bass broke the UD school record in the mile (4:24.72) to lead the University of Dubuque men’s track and field team to a third-place finish on Saturday.

Spartans Win on Senior Day, Earn #3 Seed in IIAC Tourney

The University of Dubuque needed some help from the only team to have swept them this season to capture the #2 seed in the 2015 IIAC Tournament. In front of a near capacity crowd on Senior Day the Spartans learned their fate before their dominating 77-63 victory on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center. Buena Vista lost to Coe in Cedar Rapids which knotted the Spartans in the standing with the Kohawks (10-4). Coe held the edge in the tie break after splitting in league play with IIAC champion Buena Vista.

Sophomore Emily Brinker scored a career-high 25 points on senior night as the University of Dubuque women’s basketball team blew the game open in the second half and shot nearly 60% on the game to defeat Luther, 94-81, on Saturday afternoon.
Men's Lacrosse Open 2015 Season with Road Loss

The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team opened their 2015 season against unbeaten Rockhurst University (2-0) and lost 4-17 to the hosts. A quartet of Spartans would finish the afternoon with a goal. Andrew Triantos, Joshua Cramer, Britton Harris, and Andrew Poncer all scored for UD. The Spartans finished with 12 shots in the loss.
Men's Tennis Splits at Home

The University of Dubuque men's tennis battled for over four hours and lost the fight in their Iowa Conference opener to Wartburg College 3-6. UD fell short in two out of three doubles in extra points and lost two singles matches in a third tie break set. The Spartans bounced back in the night cap seinging past Knox College 6-3 to improve to 3-5 overall.

The University of Dubuque Spartans track and field teams will host the 2015 UD Spartan Invite on Friday, Feb. 20 at 4:00 p.m. Teams scheduled to compete are: University of Dubuque, Augustana College, Clarke University, Cornell College, Luther College, Viterbo University, Waldorf College, and the University of Wisconsin - Platteville. Meet will be held in the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center on the A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track.
Spartans Upended by League Champion Beavers

The University of Dubuque men's basketball held the IIAC Championship finish in their hands on Wednesday, but it was a hot shooting Buena Vista University Beaver team which snatched it away for their own with a 94-80 victory over the Spartans. BV jumped out to an early lead and everytime the Spartans rallied to within a handful of points, BV responded with a deep three pointer.
