2014 IIAC Women's Golf Championships Team-by-Team Results

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Conditions in the third round of the 2014 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship were anything but ideal on Friday. The windy, chilly conditions kept the scores high, but the Wartburg College Knights added to its lead and are 54 strokes ahead of the second place Central College Dutch on the first day of the final weekend of play hosted at the Dubuque Golf and Country Club.

The Knights completed Friday’s round with a score of 344 (309-302-344=955), Central College shot a round of 361 (329-319-361=1009), Luther College is in third place after a 384 (343-340-384=1067), Loras College trails the Norse by just six strokes after shooting a 386 (343-344-386=1073), Coe College finished with a 404 (363-353-404=1120), Simpson College is in sixth place after a round of 413 (364-358-413=1135), University of Dubuque 409 (374-354-409=1137), and Buena Vista University 451 (412-382-451=1245) are in eighth place.

Individually Wartburg holds five out of the top six scores for medalist. Senior Morgan McMillan has a two-stroke edge over her teammate Rochelle Beardsley and Central’s Kelsey Van Tassell 233-235 for medalist honors. McMillan shot a 42 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine to lead all scorers with an 83. Beardsley was an even 42-42 on the front and back nines as Central’s Van Tessel shot a 41 on the front and a 43 on the back nine as the trio fights for medalist honors.

Wartburg’s Hannah Long (78-76-89=243), Taylor Roberts (78-78-91=247), Samantha Heinen (82-78-88=248) are in fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. Central’s Christine Ausman (82-84-91=257) and Loras’ Mara Simonson (83-83-91=257) are tied for seventh overall. Central’s Chesley Shuey (85-81-92=258) and Rachel Cassens (83-82-94=259) are ninth and tenth. Buena Vista’s Jasey Zander (85-85-92=262) sits just outside of being All-Iowa Conference in eleventh place overall.

The University of Dubuque is the host institution for this year's championship. Teams are slated to tee off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4. Dubuque and Buena Vista will tee off in the first wave of the final round, followed by Simpson, Coe and Loras in the second wave. Luther, Central, and Wartburg will make up the third and final wave.

The 2014 IIAC Champion will also receive the conference's automatic berth into the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship to be held in May at the Mission Inn Golf Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
