Softball Stunned in IIAC Tournament Opener

2014 IIAC Softball Tourney UD Vs. Simpson  Box Score

 

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team had high hopes when they opened the 2014 IIAC Softball Tournament against the Simpson College Storm. The #5-seeded Spartans was held to just three hits in the 0-8 loss to the #4 seeded Simpson College Storm. Meggie Schmidt, Tori Woltz, and Carlee Grunder all had singles.

The Spartans gave up eight runs, on 13 hits and the game ended in the sixth inning after the eight run scored off a wild pitch.  UD allowed the Storm to score in every inning but the the second. The Spartans pitchers held the Storm to just one multi-base hit in the loss. 

Amanda Williams got the starting nod, but was relieved by Hannah Koerperich and Megan Loes. The trio combined for just four strikeouts and allowed seven earned runs after facing 33 batters.
