DES MOINES, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Track & Field program set one school record and tied another on Friday at the 2014 Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee. The Spartans Women's 4x200m Relay team broke the 2013 record also set at Drake by 1.82 seconds. Rick Valcin (Catries, St. Lucia/Gros Islet) tied his own school record by clearing 16'-4.75" in the pole vault. UD has competed at the Drake Relays for three straight years.

The Spartans 4x200m team of Jasmine Bethea (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg), Tieisha Starks (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan), Nickolette McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd), and Rachael Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski) finished 12th of 24 teams in the college division at 1:44.30. The same four Spartans also ran the 4x100m Relay and finished in 28th place of 32 teams in the college division. Their time of 49.75 seconds ranks third all-time at UD.

The men's 4x100m team of Valcin, Kyle Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom), Jamie Medina (Waterloo, Iowa/West), and Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) were disqualified for stepping out of their lane.

Valcin tied his own school record from earlier this year at the Wartburg Outdoor Select by clearing a Division-III best 5.0m (16'-4.75"). He placed 16th in the 25 man field that consisted of Division-I and Division-II student-athletes.

Select coverage of the Drake Relays will air on the NBC Sports Network during a two-hour telecast from 2:00 - 4:00  p.m. on Saturday, April 28th.
