Cross Country Repeats as All-Academic Team

The University of Dubuque Men’s and Women's Cross Country teams earned the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team Award. The UD men earned the award for the second straight year. The Dubuque women tied for the 18th best Grade Point Average in Division-III at 3.63. A team must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.1 to earn the award.

Spartans Down IIAC Leaders

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team took down the Iowa Conference leading Loras College Duhawks on Wednesday night. The Spartans 57-51 victory on Jon Davison Court inside Stoltz Sports Center was the first loss of the conference season for Loras. The UD starters accounted for 53 points with Jenna Kotas leading the way with 18 points. UD held Loras scoreless for the final 4:13.

#23-ranked Spartans Lose a Heartbreaker at Home

The University of Dubuque men's basketball gave the fans in attendance Wednesday night a thriller not soon to be forgotten in Stoltz Sports Center. A near capacity crowd on hand witnessed a heartbreaking loss for just the second time this season for the Spartans to rival Loras College Duhawks. Down by two points in the final seconds, UD's Chris Frazier connected for a three pointer off the right side to put the #23-ranked Spartans ahead 70-69. The Duhawks called a time out with seven seconds remaining. Loras inbound the ball and pushed it quickly up court. The Duhawks Nathaniel Smith broke free and pulled up for a 10 foot jumper off the right lane and the ball quietly swished through the net with 1.7 seconds left on the clock giving the lead to Loras 71-70. The Spartans with no timeouts, tossed the ball to Brandon Ferguson who made a last shot attempt from over half court and the ball bounced off the right side of the backboard ending the Spartans with just their second loss of the 2013-14 season.

Valcin Wins Pole Vault for 4th Time

The University of Dubuque Men's Track & Field team won three events at the Grinnell College Invitational on Saturday. UD won the pole vault, high jump, and 4x200m Relay. Rick Valcin won the pole vault for the fourth time in five meets this season. The Spartans finished in second place as a team with 87 points.

Spartans Lose to Alum Stewart

The University of Dubuque Men's Tennis team began the 2014 season on Saturday morning inside the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center. UD lost 5-4 to former Spartan Austin Stewart and his St. Ambrose team in Head Coach Claudio Giraldi's first match at the helm. Nick Garcia and Nikolay Gospodinov went 2-0 on the day.

Spartans Lose on the Road to Simpson

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team drove through a snow storm to get to Simpson and faced a storm on the court as well. Simpson jumped out to an early 14-2 lead and did not look back en route to a 73-36 loss. The UD bench outscored the starters 20-18 for the game.

School Records by Breimon and Cary Spark Spartans

The University of Dubuque Women's Track & Field team once again broke two school records on Saturday at the Grinell College Invitational. The two records had stood for exactly one week as Brenda Breimon and Taylor Cary each broke their own records set last week at Cornell. UD finished sixth as a team.

20 Wins for Spartan Men's Basketball

The University of Dubuque men's basketball team never trailed for the second consecutive game when they captured their 20th win of the season in a 86-75 road victory over the Simpson College Storm on Saturday. UD improved to 20-1 overall and 9-1 in the Iowa Conference and will return to the comforts of Stoltz Sports Center next week. The Spartans will attempt to avenge their lone loss of the season when they host the Loras College Duhawks (11-10 overall, 4-6 in IIAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 8:00 p.m.

Spartans Lose, But Win Right To Host IIAC Dual Championship

The University of Dubuque wrestling team may have lost their final conference dual of the season to the Loras College Duhawks by a 15-29 score, but the loss opened up the opportunity for the Spartans to host the 2014 Iowa Conference Dual Meet Championship on February 14. Vs. the Buena Vista University Beavers at 7:00 p.m. for 5th and 6th place in the IIAC. The Spartans will host the UD Open on February 15. beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Spartans Strong on Defense in Road Victory

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team played its best defensive game of the year on Wednesday night. The Spartans held Wartburg College (8-12, 2-7) to a season low 40 points in the 60-40 victory. UD held the Knights to 26.1% shooting from the field. Dubuque improves to 13-7 overall and is tied for third in the Iowa Conference at 6-3.

Hot Shooting Spartans Clinch IIAC Tourney Berth

The University of Dubuque men's basketball time began the week with the final four out of six games on the road. Wednesday night UD used hot shooting to overtake the Wartburg College Knights on their home court 83-65 and clinched a spot in the Iowa Conference Tournament.

Heffernan Named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week

University of Dubuque basketball player Gage Heffernan has been named IIAC Male Athlete of the Week and Men's Basketball Performer of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 2nd, 2014. Heffernan averaged 22.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals in two games as UD improved to 18-1 on the year.

Spartans Set a Pair of School Records at Cornell

The University of Dubuque Women's Track & Field team set two school records on Saturday. Each of the records set were improvements on records set this year. Taylor Cary lowered her 60m Hurdles record to 9.45 seconds while Brenda Breimon raised her Pole Vault record to 3.35m (10' 11.75"). The UD women also won two individual events. As a team, the Spartans finished in fourth place.

Spartans Protect Home Court

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team avenged their loss at Coe from 10 days ago. The Spartans protected their home court with a 65-56 victory against Coe on Saturday afternoon. All five starters for UD scored at least seven points in a winning effort. Dubuque improves to 12-7 overall and are tied for third place in the Iowa Conference at 5-3.

A team with just one loss on the season enters every contest with a large target on its' back, the University of Dubuque men's basketball team has been that target in 2013-14. Saturday night was no different, the Coe College Kohawks threw everything they had and fell short as the Spartans captured the contest 71-65.

Men's Track Finishes Second at Cornell

The University of Dubuque Men's Track & Field team won two events on Saturday at the Hilltop Invitational on the campus of Cornell College. Included in the wins was Rick Valcin's performance in Pole Vault, which places him atop the NCAA Division-III performance list. Kebba Bojang earned the victory in the Triple Jump as UD finished 1-2-4 in the event. UD finished in second place as a team.

The University of Dubuque wrestling team took an early lead over the #18-ranked Cornell College Rams on Friday night, but the host Rams captured the final four matches to claim the dual 24-14 over the Spartans. UD falls to 8-7 overall in dual meets. The Spartans continue their conference season on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a dual at Simpson College at 1:00 p.m.

Spartans Lose at the Buzzer

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team put on quite the show on Wednesday night in front of the nearly sellout crowd and the viewers at home watching live on KCRG 9.2. The Spartans led throughout the game before a jumper by Simpson at the buzzer made the score 55-54. In her first start of the year, Meggie Schmidt scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Dubuque is 11-7 overall and tied for fourth in the Iowa Conference at 4-3.
