Spartans Compete at 2014 NCAA Men's Golf Championships

The University of Dubuque Men's Golf Team advanced to the compete among the best of the best in Division-III at the NCAA D-III Men's Golf Championships at the Grandover Resort. The Spartans dream season ended after Round 2, as they were tied for 29th, failing to make the cut. The highlight of the first two rounds of the championships was Martin Odegard making a hole-in-one on the par three, 12th hole on the East Course. As a team, UD finished with a score of 624 (309-315) which was +48 over par.

Spartans Share American Football with France

The University of Dubuque football team is preparing to pack their travel bags as the spring semester winds down and fly to Spain and France for a nine-day tour (May 20-28, 2014). Sightseeing intertwined with a football game against the Toulouse Bears in Toulouse, France. The Spartans will spend most of their time visiting sights around Barcelona, Spain, including an excursion to Montserrat Mountain Monastery.

All-IIAC for Casanova, Pablo, & Parisi

The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced its all-conference teams and major awards for the 2014 Baseball season with four University of Dubuque student-athletes earning recognition. The Spartans Daniel Casanova was named First Team All-IIAC Outfielder. Eddie Pablo and Vince Parisi were Second Team selections while Justin Naval earned honorable mention.

Odegard & Wolfe Named Ping All-Central Region

University of Dubuque Men's Golfers Martin Odegard and Eric Wolfe were named to the 2014 Division-III Ping All-Central Region Team. The Spartans seniors are currently competing at the NCAA D-III Championships at Grandover Resort and Conference Center. A total of 92 student-athletes from six regions were honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America and Ping. Odegard and Wolfe each graduate as the only four-time All-Iowa Conference honorees in UD Men's Golf history.

2014 Chlapaty Fellows Selected

Sixteen University of Dubuque students have been designated as Joseph and Linda Chlapaty Fellows for 2014. Selected by a faculty committee, the students will carry out their Fellowship projects the summer of 2014.

Billesbach & Koerperich Named NFCA All-Midwest Region

The University of Dubuque Softball team had two student-athletes named to the 2014 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division-III All-Midwest Region Team. The Spartans Ainsley Billesbach and Hannah Koerperich were Third Team All-Region selections.

Spartans Claim Six Individual Titles, 18 All-IIAC Performances

The University of Dubuque Track & Field teams claimed six individual titles and earned 18 All-Iowa Conference performances at the 2014 IIAC Outdoor Track Championships at Luther College. In addition, the Spartans set six new school records. Rick Valcin won two events and earned All-IIAC in four events. Nickolette McKenzie won the women's triple jump and was all-conference in four events. The UD men finished in fourth place with 121 points while the women were fifth with 79 points.

UD's Dobratz Wins Decathlon at Iowa Conference Outdoor Championships

University of Dubuque's Tyler Dobratz captured the men's decathlon title at the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a school record 6,155 points on Friday afternoon at Carlson Stadium on the campus of Luther College. Dobratz won by 142 points behind first place finishes in the shot put and discus. Nickolette McKenzie earned All-IIAC honors with a runner-up finish in the long jump.

Five Spartans Named All-IIAC Softball

The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced its All-Conference Teams and major awards for the 2014 softball season with five Spartans earning recognition. Senior Amber Meyer and sophomore Ainsley Billesbach were named First Team All-IIAC. A trio of Spartans earned Second Team All-IIAC with Caitlin Aulwes, Hannah Koerperich, and Amanda Williams making the cut. UD finished the season with a school record 22 wins and qualified for the IIAC Tournament for the second straight year.

Wolfe Repeats as Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week

University of Dubuque senior golfer Eric Wolfe repeated as Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week and Men's Golfer of the Week. He won medalist honors and IIAC Golfer of the Year honors after an 11-shot victory at the 2014 Iowa Conference Championships.

2014 Athletics Awards Banquet

The University of Dubuque Athletic Department celebrated the 2013-14 Senior Student-Athletes on Monday, May 5th with its Senior Awards Banquet. Top awards handed out were Spartan Academic Achievement Award, Spartan Academic Student-Athlete Excellence Award, Student-Athlete of the Year, and Wendt Character Student-Athlete Award. Academic All-American and Athletic All-American were also recognized. A total of 59 seniors were honored during the ceremony.

Men's Golf Prepare for NCAA Division III National Championships

The NCAA Division III Men's Golf Committee has announced the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The University of Dubuque men's golf team automatically qualified after winning the IIAC Championships on May 3. The championships will be held May 13-16, at Grandover Resort, in Greensboro, North Carolina. The championships will be hosted by Guilford College and the Greensboro Sports Commission.

2014 Men's Basketball Team Awards Banquet

The University of Dubuque Men’s Basketball team closed the books on a great season with their team banquet on Sunday April 25th. The Spartans squad had back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time in school history and finished the 2013-14 season with a 21-5 overall record. UD was ranked as high as #23 in the nation after a 16-0 start to the season.

Wolfe Leads Spartans to IIAC Title

The University of Dubuque men's golf team won it's fourth IIAC Men's golf championship and it's first since 1975. Two factors remained the same, coach for this year's team champion and 1975 championship team was Jon Davison. The University of Dubuque captured its first men's golf title in 39 years after posting a 7-shot victory at the 2014 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Men's Golf Championships. With the victory, the Spartans automatically qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships May 13-16 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Spartans Win 8-1 on the Final Day of the Regular Season

The University of Dubuque Baseball team closed out the 2014 season with a split vs. Luther on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans won the opener 8-1 before being defeated 12-0 in the final game of the season. Dalton Garst did it all in the opener, allowing only three hits in six innings with no earned runs to earn the win on the mound while also picking up two hits at the plate.

Spartans Track & Field Continues to Improve at Monmouth

The University of Dubuque Track & Field teams continued their upward trend of success in the outdoor season with numerous personal best performances and three school records at the Monmouth College Fighting Scots Invitational. The Spartans Brenda Breimon, Katelyn Herbig, and Conner Hirt all broke their own school records on Saturday. The UD men finished third of 11 teams while the women took fifth of 11 teams.

Softball Downs #14 Enroute to Tourney Semifinals

The University of Dubuque softball opened the 2014 IIAC Tournament not the way they had planned, but they responded on Saturday by knocking the #14 Central College Dutch out of the tournament Saturday morning by a score of 5-4 and battled into 10 innings in the semifinals and lost to Buena Vista University 2-1. The tough IIAC competition proved itself with both semifinal contests being extended into extra innings.
