UD's Women's Track and Field Named USTCCA All-Academic

The Scholar Team of the Year and All-Academic Team honors for the 2013-14 Division III Track & Field Season were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Spartan women's track and field team finished with a cumulative grade point average of 3.18 as a team in 2014.

McKenzie Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

The University of Dubuque women's track and field team was honored by the the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), today with Nickolette McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Fremd) being named by the association as All-Academic. Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 416 women from 126 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments.

Dobratz and Zurbuchen Honored as All-Academic

The University of Dubuque men's track and field team was honored by the the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), today with Tyler Dobratz and Evan Zurbuchen being named by the association announced as All-Academic. A total of 276 men from 100 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments in 2013-14.

Beyond Sports Network (BSN) is proud to announce the University of Dubuque's Tyler Rutenbeck and Dominique Ravenell as members of our 2014 Preseason D3 All America Football Team. The BSN 2014 Preseason D3 All America Football Team, which is made up of 93 football players from around the country, was chosen based on returning All Americans from the 2013 BSN All America Football Team, highest vote recipients in the 2013 BSN All American Voting, statistics, and game evaluations.

For 23 years the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has served as one of the most coveted and prestigious off-the-field honors in college football. The award recognizes players whose charitable involvement and community service contributions stand out among all other student-athletes participating in the sport. University of Dubuque's Tyler Dobratz (Sr., TE, Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton HS) has been named among the 182 nominees seeking to be a finalist for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® in 2014. He is one of just three candidates submitted among the eight Iowa Conference schools.

2014 USTA Mississippi Valley Junior and Adult Open Tournaments

The 2014 United States Tennis Association (USTA) Mississippi Valley Junior and Adult Open Tournaments are hosted by the Dubuque Golf & Country Club from July 14-16 (Juniors) and July 18-20 (adults) in various tennis venues around the Dubuque area. UD’s men’s and women’s tennis coach, Claudio Giraldi is the tournament director and is anxious to watch quality tennis being exhibited throughout the events. Entry into the tournaments is open to all USTA members only.

Tyler Rutenbeck (Sr., WR, Maquoketa, Iowa) 1st Team Offense, Dominique Ravenell, (Sr., OL, Forth Worth, Texas) 1st Team Offense, Blaine Snitker (Jr., LB, Waukon, Iowa) 2nd Team Defense, Vincent Whipple (Sr., DB, Eagle Grove, Iowa) 3rd Team Defense, and Reggie Cole Jr. (Jr., DB, Milwaukee, Wis.) Honorable Mention Defense.

The University of Dubuque placed a league best 13 Student-Athletes on the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference All-Academic Team for 2014. A cumulative grade point average of 3.30 is required to be named to the MWLC All-Academic Team.

Valcin Wins Pole Vault Championship

University of Dubuque student-athlete Rick Valcin won the schools first NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track & Field individual national championship by claiming first place in the pole vault on Thursday afternoon. Valcin cleared 5.15m (16'-10.75") in a jump off to win the title. The final two competitors were a rematch of the 2014 Indoor Track Championships where Michael Bennett of the University of Chicago won the matchup on misses. The Spartans junior upped his own school record by six inches in addition to claiming All-American honors.

Spartans Qualify Four for NCAA Outdoor Track Championships

The University of Dubuque Track and Field program qualified four student-athletes for the 2014 NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. UD qualifiers are Kebba Bojang, Nickolette McKenzie, Rick Valcin, and Evan Zurbuchen. Valcin (Pole Vault) and Zurbuchen (400m Hurdles - Prelims) will compete on Thursday, May 22nd. Bojang and McKenzie will each compete in the triple jump on Saturday, May 24th.

Live at Heritage Center presents 34th Army Band Patriotic Concert

The University of Dubuque’s Heritage Center, in cooperation with TH Media, presents a special Live at Heritage Center summer music presentation on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. The Iowa Army National Guard’s 34th Army Band makes a special appearance with a patriotic concert in John and Alice Butler Hall. The performance will feature opening music by “The Patriots” Drum and Fife Ensemble followed by the full 36-piece Concert Band.

The University of Dubuque inducted two new members into its Faculty Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 8, 2014. Ben Bartels, assistant professor of criminal justice, was recognized with the John Knox Coit Prize, and Dick Smith, associate professor of mathematics, was recognized with the William L. Lomax Award.
