BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team is becoming quite familiar with overtime sessions after going into OT for the third straight game and sixth time this season. The Spartans beat Grinnell 1-0 in the 95th minute on a goal by Gonzalo Hernandez (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Internacional Kolbe). UD held Grinnell without a shot in the first half. Dubuque improved its record to 3-8-1 on the season.

Hernandez scored the game winner after a throw-in down the right side line by Jack Stefanski (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel). Hernandez, a freshman, dribbled down the sideline and then across the defense to the middle of the field before finding an opening in the defense for a low liner of a shot that stayed inside the post by inches.

Goalkeeper Jose Resendiz (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) earned the shutout victory in goal while recording two saves.

The Spartans defensive back line of Stefanski, Peter Hager (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo), Kahlin Schneider-Gonzalez (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert), and Zachary Matuszak (St. Charles, Ill./St Charles North) played all 95 minutes of the game limiting Grinnell to five shots.

Hernandez led UD with five shots, three of which were on goal.

UD is 2-3-1 in Overtime matches this season.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will be on the road at Coe College (4-7-1, 0-3-0) on Saturday, October 12th. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
