Spartans Pick Up Road Victory

MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS - The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team picked up their seventh victory of the year on Wednesday afternoon. After suffering its first loss of the season on Saturday, the Spartans rebounded with a 3-1 win at Monmouth College (5-3-0). Dubuque held the Scots to zero shots on goal in the second half. UD is now 7-1-0 on the year and 2-1-0 on the road. 

The Spartans took an early lead in the first period on a Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) goal at the 18:00 minute mark. Lisa Rosas (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia) picked up her first assist of the year on the Lynn goal. With less than five minutes until halftime, Monmouth tied the game at 1-1 on a goal from Lauren Kellen, the second leading goal scorer in Division III. 

The eventual game winner would come during the 66th minute of action when the Spartans leading scorer Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) scored her seventh goal of the year with Melanie Prudhomme (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda) assisting on the play. Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) scored an insurance goal for UD with 11 minutes left in the game to seal the victory. Liz Frazier (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) assisted on the goal. Prudhomme led Dubuque with four shots. 

Goalkeeper Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) finished with six saves and one goal allowed in the winning effort. Duncan has played all but 11:13 of a possible 723:36 minutes in goal this season. 

UD held a 11-10 advantage in shots for the game.

UP NEXT: The Spartans open Iowa Conference action with #4 Loras College (7-2-1) on Saturday, September 28th at Oyen Field. Game time is 1:00 pm. Loras is currently ranked first in the latest NSCAA North Region Poll while Dubuque comes in at sixth.
