Women’s Soccer Steady at #6 in NSCAA Poll

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team remained sixth in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III North Region Poll released on Tuesday, September 24th. The Spartans received votes in the D3soccer.com Top 25 for the third straight week as well. Dubuque is 6-1-0 on the year including a 5-0 record at home.

The Spartans found themselves trailing for the first time this season after North Central scored early in the first game of the week. UD had been ahead or tied for 466 minutes before the NCC goal. Dubuque rallied back in the second half with goals from Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Lisa Rosas (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia) to win 2-1 over North Central. UD lost on the road at St. Catherine’s University to snap the Spartans six game winning streak.

The 6-0 start for UD was the best in the programs 13 year history. The six game winning streak also tied a school record set last season for consecutive wins.  Watkins goal against North Central moved her into fourth place all-time at UD with 87 career points (36-goals/15-assists).

UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to Monmouth College (5-2-0) on Wednesday, September 25th at 4:30 pm. UD will end the week with its first Iowa Conference match of the year when they host defending IIAC Champion Loras on Saturday, September 28th at 1:00 pm.
