Men's Cross Country Finishes 11th at Grinnell

GRINNELL, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Cross Country team opened the 2013 season on Saturday morning at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College. The Spartans finished 11th of 14 teams. UD had its opening meet at Illinois Wesleyan cancelled because of heat concerns. The top finisher for Dubuque was Payton Nevills (Savanna, Ill./West Carroll) in 25th place at 27:19 on the 8K course.  Nevills time was the 15th fastest in UD history.

Sophomores Javier Rodriguez (Waukegan, Ill./St. Joseph Academy) and Jordan Murray (DeWitt, Iowa/Central DeWitt) finished within three seconds of each other with Rodriguez posting a time of 29:06 and 55th place. Murray was 56th overall at 29:09. The top freshman runner for the Spartans was Jonathan Berland (Lime Springs, Iowa/Crestwood) at 29:31 and 65th place.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will compete on Friday, September 27th at the Brissman-Lundeen Invite hosted by Augustana College at 5:00 pm.
