Men's Soccer Taken Down at Home

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team will be prepared for anything once the Iowa Conference season begins later this month. The Spartans once again found themselves in a tight battle that would go down to the final seconds on Friday night. UD would lose to Lake Forest College (2-1) and Mahir Mameledzijia, the nations leading scorer from 2012, by the score of 2-1 at Oyen Field. Dubuque is now 0-3 on the season.

The Spartans and Foresters played an even first half with each team having four shot attempts and two corner kicks in the first 45 mintues of action. The 1-0 defict for the Spartans was the result of a header from Mameledzijia in the 39th minute of play. 

UD rebounded in the second period with a goal from Cory Winkler (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) in the 57th minute to tie the ball at 1-1. Winkler took a pass from Brandon Wiley (Mannheim, Germany/Mannheim) in front of the goal and beat the keeper with a sliding shot that grazed the side post on its way in the goal.  

Lake Forest would answer with the eventual game winning goal in the 67th minute to take a 2-1 advantage. UD would continue to attack after falling behind with three shots but were unable to score. 

Wiley led the Spartans offensively with four shot attempts. 

Jose Resendiz (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) took the loss in goal allowing one goal and recording one save while playing the second half. Jake O'Rourke (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gormon) started in goal and had one save in the first half.
