Cross Country Earns All-Academic Team Award

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - The University of Dubuque Men’s and Women's Cross Country teams earned the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTCCCA) All-Academic Team Award. It is the fifth straight year for the women and first time for the men.

The UD women’s team finished the fall semester with a team grade point average of 3.38. A total of 197 women’s teams earned the award by qualifying with a team cumulative GPA of 3.10 or better. The Spartan women placed third in the Iowa Conference under head coach Chad Gunnelson. The women's team finished with the lowest point total ever and the best finish ever when they placed 5th at the 2012 Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships with a score of 159. Samantha Holen, Bethany Michaelis, and Brenda Nava all earned Academic All-Iowa Conference.

The Spartan men’s team finished the fall semester with a GPA of 3.18 to earn their first USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award. A total of 141 men’s teams qualified for the honor.  The UD men also finished with the third highest GPA among all IIAC schools.  The Dubuque men’s team improved their time at the 2012 Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships by 22:16 over the 2011 final team score. The Spartans average time dropped by 4:52 from 2012 to 2011.
