DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team was looking to tighten up an IIAC Tournament berth with a victory at home on Saturday, but a 60-68 loss to the visiting Coe College Kohawks left them in fifth place in the conference race. A win Saturday would have left the Spartans within a game of securing a tournament berth, but the loss leaves them two games shy. Three spots were secured Saturday, which leaves three spots remaining to make the IIAC Tournament with five conference games left.

UD and Coe ended the opening half tied 35-35 on Saturday despite the Spartans leading by as many as six points in the first 20 minutes of play. After 40 minutes it was the Kohawks which led nearly every category of the statistics.

The two teams swapped the lead 10 times and the game was tied 10 times as well. UD's Derek Griffin left the game early with an injury and the Kohawks would take advantage inside by out rebounding the Spartans 35-31. UD sank 24-57 attempts from the floor, but were ice cold at the charity stripe, sinking 9-18 attempts. The Kohawks made 20-25 free throw attempts. The Spartans sank three of 15 three point attempts.

MItch Michaelis led UD with 15 points as teammate Miles Hookstead scored 11 points. Lucas Ware led the rebounding with eight.

UD will travel to play Buena Vista in Storm Lake on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 8:00 p.m. before returning home on Saturday, Feb. 9 to face the Central Dutch at 4:00 p.m.
