Spartans Split Season Series with Norse

DECORAH, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team faced a familiar foe on Saturday night as they squared off against Luther College (11-8, 3-5) for the second time in six days. Coming off a 14 point home victory on Monday night, the Spartans were unable to settle in on the road as they lost 90-64. Mollie Whiting (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) led UD in scoring for the tenth straight game. Dubuque is now 13-6 overall and 3-5 in the Iowa Conference.

Whiting extended her streak of consecutive 20+ point games to nine games with her team high 26 points. She finished the game 3-8 from three point distance and 11-24 overall from the field in route to her 13th straight game with over 15 points. Whiting continues to lead the IIAC in conference action at 27.7 points per game.

The Spartans and Norse stayed close throughout the first 12 minutes with Luther leading 21-17. Dubuque held its largest lead six minutes into the game at 11-8. UD held a 12-3 points off turnovers advantage in the first half but trailed 38-31 at the half.

Meggie Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) provided her usual spark off the bench scoring 16 points including four three's. The UD bench outscored Luther 30-5. Stephany Remakel (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) also made a large contribution off the bench by scoring four points, pulling down five rebounds and blocking two shots. Jena Darwin (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) finished 3-4 from the field for six points.

Jennifer Fischer (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) pulled down a team high seven rebounds in the contest. Fischer, Whiting, andJessica Goetz (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) have started all nineteen games this season.

As a team, the Spartans continue to lead the IIAC in scoring offense at 70.7 points per game and turnovers forced at 449.
