DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team improved to 5-1 on Jon Davison Court with a 69-55 win over Luther College (10-7, 2-4). The Spartans win was the seventh straight over Luther. A key to the victory for UD was a 34-8 advantage in points in the paint. Dubuque is now 13-4 overall and 3-3 in the Iowa Conference.

UD jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game as Mollie Whiting (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) scored six points. A Luther 11-0 run gave the Norse their largest lead of the game with 13:30 left in the first period at 13-8. The two teams would stay close over the next ten minutes before the Spartans closed out the half with a 8-2 run to take a 30-23 lead. UD forced 20 first half turnovers which led to 13 steals.

Whiting continued her torrid scoring pace with a game high 27 points. She has now scored 20 or more in seven straight games and over 15 points in 11 consecutive games. Whiting's big game pushed her atop the IIAC scoring chart with 21.1 points per game in all games and 28.0 ppg in conference only action. The senior guard also pulled down four rebounds and dished out three assists in the game.

The Spartans continued to push the tempo in the second half scoring 39 points while not allowing Luther to get any closer than five points in the period. The largest UD lead came with 2:51 left when Whiting hit a runner in the lane to go up 65-51.

Sophomores Jessica Goetz (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) and Meggie Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) each finished in double figures as well with Goetz scoring 11 and Schmidt 10 points. Schmidt's performance marked the fourth straight game she has scored double figures off the bench. Schmidt also finished with a team high four assists and four steals.

Jena Darwin (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) finished with a team high six rebounds. Jennifer Fischer (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) and Ashley Barwick (Appleton, Wis./Xavier) each pulled down five boards of their own.
