Spartans Win, Prepare for Busy Week

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team captured the Iowa Conference tilt today over the Simpson College Storm 84-57. UD trailed by four points early in the game, but hot shooting from the outside broke the contest open for the host Spartans. 

The Spartans shot nearly 50% from the field and sank nine shots from beyond the three point arc (39.1%). Chris Frazier led the Spartan scoring with 22 points after the sizzling hand of his found the target deep in 6-9 attempts. Miles Hookstead finished with his season high of 14 points as Mitch Michaelis and Andre Norris would finish with 10 points each. Jordan Townsend grabbed six rebounds and added seven assists to his night. 

UD scored 21 points off Simpson mistakes, but the Spartans dominated the points off the bench with 39 while the Storm's subs added 17 points. 

Saturday kicked off a busy seven days for the Spartans. Monday, Jan. 21, UD welcomes the Luther College Norse. The Norse will journey to Dubuque with an unblemished Iowa Conference mark of 5-0. On Saturday, they beat the Coe College Kohawks 60-57 in Cedar Rapids. Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Spartans will travel across town to face the Loras College Duhawks (0-5 in IIAC, 5-11 overall) broadcast live on ABC affiliate KCRG 9.2 digital channel in the tri-states. The Spartans will end the week on the road once again facing Luther, this time in Decorah on Saturday, Jan. 26 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. due to the Norse hosting one half of the Iowa Conference wrestling duals earlier in the day.
