Spartan Men finish 2nd at Sol Butler Classic.

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Track and Field teams set four school records in their first meet of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Sol Butler Classic. The women's team accounted for three of those records in route to a third place finish with 84 points. The men's team set one school record and finished in second with 125 points.

Records started falling early in the day with Katelyn Herbig (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central) setting a UD record in the Weight Throw with a 42' 5.5" throw in the days first field event. Brenda Breimon (Oconomowoc, Wis./Slinger) also set a new school record early in the day by clearing 10' 0.0" in the Pole Vault. School records would fall in back-to-back events in the 4x800m relay as the womens team of Hauber, Nava, Holen, and Bloedow bested the old record by 12 seconds with a time of 10:48.80. The mens team of Miller, Busch, George, and Nevills followed the women's performance with a record setting run of their own by finishing in 8:30.15 beating the previous record by nearly eight seconds.

Notable performances on the men's side include Tyrone Galvin (Madison, Wis./Madison East) winning the 200m Dash and finishing second in the Long Jump. Other victories for the Spartans men were Drextal Jackson (Madison, Wis./Verona) in the Shot Put and Antwone Lindsay (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) in the High Jump. Phillip Jones (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood) finished second in the 55m Dash.

For the Spartan women, relay teams accounted for both of the UD wins. The 4x200 team of Hodge, Starks, McKenzie, and Busjahn won while the 4x400 team of Hodge, Starks, Hauber, and Trinco ended the day with a victory of their own. UD finished second in two field events with Nickolette McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd) in the Long Jump and Alexis Higgins (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls)in the High Jump. Higgins jump of 5" 4.25" was the second best in school history. Megan Bloedow (Gays Mills, Wis./Boscobel) scored big for the Spartans with her second place finish in the 1,000m Run.
