Cold Shooting Shuts Down Spartans in IIAC Opener

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team opened the Iowa Conference season on the road at Wartburg on Saturday. The Spartans found the temperature outside mild, but it was a chilly day for UD's offense which struggled to find a basket in the 58-69 loss. 

UD trailed by 14 points in the opening half 32-46. The Spartans finished the day shooting 19-51 from the field (37.3%), 4-21 attempts from the three point area (19%), and 12-24 from the free throw line (50%). Andre Norris led the Spartans in scoring with 10 points and six rebounds. Derek Griffin and Caleb Konieczny would both add nine points. Mitch Michaelis finished with eight points and led the team with four assists.

The Spartans were out rebounded 40-34, out scored in the paint 22-16, but would match the Knights points scored by the bench players with 27. 

UD will travel to face the Coe College Kohawks on Jan. 9 before returning to Stoltz Sports Center and hosting the Buena Vista University Beavers on January 12.
