8th Annual Jim Fox Spartan Open Results

The University of Dubuque Wrestling team hosted the 8th Annual Jim Fox Open on Saturday with 133 individuals taking part in the event. The Spartans top finisher was Dan Howell with a second place finish in the 285 lbs. division. Kody Krenz finished in third place at 133 lbs. while also picking up three wins by fall.

Spartans Open IIAC Dual Meet Season, Prepare for Jim Fox Spartan Open

The University of Dubuque wrestling opened their Iowa Conference dual meet season on Friday night against #3-ranked Luther College Norse. The Spartans edged out an early lead 10-9 when Nick Drendel (Fr., North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora HS) grabbed the win by a fall in 2:08 at 149 lbs. The top-ranked Norse re-took the lead after winning the next five matches before the Spartans Dan Howell (So., Oswego, Ill./Oswego HS) earned a fall in 1:36 at 285 lbs. UD's Brian Travis (Jr., Redington Shores, Fla./Northside Christian HS) currently ranked #9 in NWCA individual rankings was the only other victor after claiming a major decision at 141 lbs. by a 11-2 score.

2013 Key City Clash Gives Back to Local Charity

The University of Dubuque and Loras College continued their intense rivalry on the football field in 2013 in the Key City Clash football game. The proceeds from this year’s contest were presented to Opening Doors Maria House – Teresa Shelter. The 2013 donation marks the sixth consecutive year the two schools have given back to the Dubuque community. The schools donated a check of $2,500 to Opening Doors on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.

UD Men's Soccer Advanced Player Winter Camp

The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer program is excited to announce the 2014 Advanced Players Winter Camp. The camp will be held in the new UD indoor turf facility on March 1st from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm with optional campus opportunities earlier in the day.

Carter & Lillibridge Named Academic All-America

University of Dubuque seniors Tyson Carter and Doug Lillibridge have been named to the 2013 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Football Team. Carter earned First Team recognition while Lillibridge was a Second Team honoree.

Spartans Rally in Second Half to Remain Perfect

The University of Dubuque men's basketball team continued where they left off before Thanksgiving break and remain perfect in non-conference play after a 75-64 victory over Clarke University on Saturday. The game was tied at halftime 35-35 before the Spartans broke the contest open in the final half and led by as many as 17 points. Gage Heffernan was a key Spartan as he helped UD offensively with 20 points and defensively with a game high 16 rebounds including 11 defensive boards. He led UD with five steals and four assists in the win.

Spartans Hang Tough in Close Loss to UW-La Crosse

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team had two shots in the last minute of play to re-take the lead late on Saturday afternoon but were unable to connect. The Spartans hung around all game with UW-La Crosse, never trailing by more than five in the 66-63 loss to UWL. Emily Brinker led UD with 16 points. Dubuque moves to 3-2 on the season.

UD Men's Basketball Receives Votes in D3hoops Top 25

The University of Dubuque Men's Basketball team is off to a 5-0 start to the 2013-14 Season and it is not going unnoticed. The Spartans, winners of 12 of their last 13 games dating back to last season, received votes (8 points) in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll for Week 1. UD is averaging 87.2 points per game, the 43rd highest points per game total in Division-III. Dubuque currently has five players averaging double figure points per game.

Record Setting Night for Spartans

The University of Dubuque women's basketball team kept on their high scoring pace on Tuesday night with a record setting night on the road. The Spartans tied the school record for points scored in a game with 110 last week and broke the record tonight with a 112-89 victory over the Blackburn College Beavers.

Spartans Tie School Record with 110 Points

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team tied the school record for points in a game as 15 Spartans scored in the contest. UD pushed the tempo early and did not look back as they beat Bethany Lutheran 110-81 on Saturday afternoon inside the Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans were led offensively by Jenna Kotas with 21 points. Dubuque improved to 2-1 on the year.

Kubica Leads Spartans at Concordia Open

The University of Dubuque wrestling team competed at the 21st Annual Concordia University Open Wrestling meet on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Spartans were led by Joseph Kubica who finished 3rd at 165 lbs. Nick Drendel placed 5th at 149lbs. with three falls. Kody Krenz capped off the afternoon with three wins by falls at 133 lbs.

Delta Phi Sigma to Host Ugly Sweater 5K Run/Walk

University of Dubuque student organization Delta Phi Sigma will host an Ugly Sweater 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, December 8. This non-timed event for fun and charity will benefit Dubuque’s local Toys for Tots Foundation. Participants are invited to grab their ugliest sweater (not required, but recommended) or other festive clothing, lace up their running shoes, and join the fun on a scenic Grandview Avenue route.

UD Receives $48,000 Grant from Council of Independent Colleges

Michaelis Scores 1,000 Career Point in Spartans Win

he University of Dubuque Men's Basketball team advanced to the Championship Game of the Carthage College Classic on Friday night with a 79-76 victory against Benedictine (Ill.). Spartans senior Mitch Michaelis became the 20th Men's Basketball player with 1,000 Career Points with 14 first half points. The second half was all Andre Norris as he scored 20 of his career high 27 points in the final 20 minutes. Dubuque moved to 4-0 on the year.

UD Mediation Team Nationally Ranked

From October 31-November 2, the University of Dubuque mediation team competed at the fourteenth Annual International Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament at Drake University Law School. The event attracted schools from throughout the United States including: Boston University, Middle Tennessee State University, Morningside College, Oral Roberts University, and the University of San Diego were among those competing.

UD Forms Partnership with University of Iowa College of Law

President Jeffrey F. Bullock, today, announced the formation of a partnership between The University of Dubuque and the University of Iowa College of Law in Iowa City. The Iowa Law “3+3” Program would allow UD undergraduates in their junior year of study to apply for admission to Iowa Law’s Juris Doctor (JD) Program.

Spartans Place 57 on Fall Iowa Conference All-Academic Team

The University of Dubuque placed 57 Student-Athletes on the 2013-14 Fall Academic All-Iowa Conference Team. To be eligible for the IIAC All-Academic Team a Student-Athlete must compete at the varsity level, be least a sophomore in academic standing, have attended the nominating institution for at least one academic year, and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average. The UD Football team had an IIAC best 18 student-athletes qualify. On the women's side, UD was led by the soccer team with 11 qualifiers.
