Watkins Chosen Third Team All-Region

DUBUQUE, IOWA – University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer student-athlete Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) has been chosen Third Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region. A two time First Team All-Iowa Conference (IIAC) performer, it is her first time on the NSCAA All-Region team. Watkins led the Spartans with 13 goals as they finished the season with an 11-7-2 record overall and 4-2-1 in the IIAC. UD went on to advance to the IIAC Tournament Finals for the second time in four years.

Watkins midseason shift to midfield sparked a 9-1-1 stretch in which UD outscored their opponents 30-9 and posted five shutouts. The junior finished with 10 goals, three assists, and two game winners during the 11 game stretch. During the same period, she put 20 of her 33 shots attempts on goal for an impressive 60.6% shot on goal percentage.

A three time All-IIAC honoree, Watkins finished the season fifth in the conference in goals (13), goals per game (0.65), points (30), and points per game (1.50).She also finished third in shots per game (3.45) and fourth in shots (69). Watkins was named IIAC Performer of the Week two times during the 2012 season.
