Spartans Win 5th Straight

SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI – The University of Dubuque Women’s Basketball team extend its win streak to five games after defeating Fontbonne University on Tuesday night. The Spartans 64-43 win gave UD two wins by over 20 points on the road trip. UD is now 6-1 on the season including a perfect 3-0 record on the road.

The Spartans took an early 2-0 lead and would not trail for the entire game. After a 4-4 tie one minute and 26 seconds into the game, UD would lead for the rest of the game. Dubuque was led on the offensive end of the court by Mollie Whiting (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) with 20 points in only 23 minutes of action. Whiting finish the game shooting 8-16 from the floor and paced UD with 15 first half points.

The UD bench outscored the Fontbonne reserves 23-8 with Meggie Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) leading the way with nine points. Schmidt and Jennifer Fischer (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) each had a team high four steals in the contest. Stephany Remakel (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) continued her stellar play with six points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.

The largest lead of the night for the Spartans came with 1:32 left in the game when Haylee Nutter (Wonder Lake, Ill./Woodstock) hit a
jumper to put UD up 22 points at 63-41. The Spartans would lead by at least 11 points the entire second half.

UD committed a season low 16 turnovers while forcing a season high 27 turnovers resulting in 18 Spartan steals.
