Spartans Win, Prepare for Home Series

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team beat the Silver Lake College Lakers 86-57 to open play in December in Stoltz Sports Center. The contest was one of three in a row for the Spartans who will host cross town rival Clarke University on Dec. 5 at 7:00 p.m. before the Blackburn College Beavers journey to Dubuque for a Dec. 8 match-up with tip-off slated for 4:00 p.m.

On Saturday UD led from the start with 13 Spartans scoring and 18 student-athletes seeing action in the victory. Andre Norris led the scoring with 15 points trailed closely by Chris Frazier who had 14 points. Frazier leads the Spartans in scoring this season with an average of 15.7 points per game. He ranks seventh in the Iowa Conference in scoring through Sunday Dec. 2 contests. UD's bench out scored the Lakers 42-24 as the Spartans took advantage of 20 turnovers from Silver Lake and scored 28 points. Miles Hookstead came off the bench and led with nine points and two steals.The Spartans worked the ball inside scoring 54 of their 86 points in the paint as they dominated the rebounding 46-32.

Among the Iowa Conference, UD ranks second in scoring offense 81.3 points a game, second in scoring defense holding their opponents to 62.7 points a game, second in field goal percentage defense with .410, and second in rebounding margin with +7.0. The Spartans are atop the conference standings with a 6-1 overall record.

UD welcomes Clark College (6-4 overall) to Campus on Wednesday. Clarke has won four in a row with their last loss courtesy of the Spartans on Nov. 24 with the two teams met at UW-Stout Rurhey Shootout by a 64-56 score. On Sunday the Crusaders beat Silver Lake 88-60.

The Spartans continue home action when Blackburn College (0-7 overall) plays on Dec. 8 at 4:00 p.m. The Beavers closest game of the season was against Benedictine University, a 63-73 loss.
