Spartans Extend Record to 4-1

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team improved their season record to 4-1 after beating UD Alum Mark Beinborn (Cl'98) and his Augustana College Vikings by a score of 69-58. Beinborn in his first season as head coach for the Vikings, fell to 2-3 overall.

The Vikings held team leading Mollie Whiting to nine points, well below her average of 17.6 points a game. Kayla Springer led the Spartans with 13 points as Krystal Pritchett came off the bench to add 11 points and four steals in the victory. Springer and Meggie Schmidt led UD with six rebounds. The Spartans out rebounded the host Vikings 40-32. Both teams would finish the evening sinking 6-19 attempts from the three point arc (31.6%).

UD led the Vikings in the opening half 36-30 and responded in the second half by shooting 50% from the field (14-28 attempts). UD forced the hosts into committing 22 turnover and the Spartans scored 26 points off their mistakes. UD also led in second chance points, scoring 18 while holding Augustana to five points.

The Spartans will travel to St. Louis on Dec. 3-4 where they will play Webster College and Fontbonne College before returning home to open their home season with Blackburn College on December 8 at 2:00 p.m.
