Spartans Go Undefeated at UW-Stout Tournament

MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN - The University of Dubuque Women’s Basketball team finished a perfect 2-0 at the UW-Stout Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout with a 78-57 win on Sunday afternoon over St. Scholastica (0-4). The Spartans would score first and not look back as they did not trail the entire game. UD is now 3-1 on the season. 

Stephany Remakel (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) led the Spartans with nine points and 10 rebounds.  Alexis Lozano-Dobbs (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) scored nine points off the bench to lead the second unit that accounted for 39 points. 15 different Spartans would score in the contest.

The Spartans used three three-pointers and two jumpers from Jennifer Fischer (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) put St. Scholastica in an early hole with a 13-4 start in the first five minutes. UD would open up a 17 point lead after a Krystal Pritchett (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) layup put Dubuque ahead 36-19 with 2:34 left in the first half. UD would lead 40-25 at the half.

UD would open the second half with an 11-0 run over the first four minutes. The Spartans would lead by at least 18 points throughout the second half. The biggest lead would come after a Makenzie Reed (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) jumper with 3:59 left put UD up 71-41.

While no Spartans finished in double figures all five starters finished with at least seven points as Jessica Goetz (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) and Kayla Springer (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) each had eight points. Mollie Whiting (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) and Fischer had seven to go with Remakel’s nine. Goetz led UD with three steals. Dubuque finished with a 48-32 rebounding advantage including a 21-11 edge in offensive rebounds.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to Rock Island, Ill. to take on Augustana College (2-2) on Wednesday, November 28th at 7:30 pm.  The Vikings are coached by former UD Men’s Basketball standout Mark Beinborn.
