Spartans Win Opener at Turkey Shootout

MENOMONIE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team forced some turnovers down the stretch on Saturday afternoon and earned a 63-60 victory over Martin Luther College at the opening game of the 2012 UW-Stout Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout.

The Spartans led by just two at the break after sinking 15-35 attempts from the floor. The Spartans finished the day shootong 38.5% from the floor, but were ice cold from beyond the three point arc where they made just one of 12 attempts (8.3%). UD's defense forced Martin Luther into committing 25 turnovers and UD would score 24 points off the miscues. 

The Spartans were led in scoring by Mollie Whiting who finished with 25 points and four steals in 34 minutes of action. Kayla Springer led the rebounding by grabbing 10 and was the lone Spartan to connect from beyond the arc. UD finished with 10 Spartans scoring in the win. UD out rebounded Martin Luther 41-37.
