Overtime Thrilling Win for Spartans

ELMHURST, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team held on Tuesday evening to capture an overtime thriller on the road over the host Elmhurst College by a 72-71 mark.

UD trailed by 11 points in the opening half of play, but rallied back to out score the hosts 33-22 to tie the game and send it to overtime. Derek Griffin grabbed a late rebound in overtime and sank a lay-up to give UD a one point edge with just two seconds remaining. A turnover and a Spartan steal ended the night with a hard fought Spartan victory.

Jordan Townsend led the starters with 13 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Mitch Michaelis returned to the line-up and played 20 minutes off the bench and also finished with 13 points. Chris Frazier played 35 minutes and ended with 10 points. The Spartans made 27-62 attempts from the floor and sank 13-18 free throw attempts. UD out rebounded Elmhurst 41-31.

The perfect 3-0 Spartans return to the road to travel and compete in the UW-Stout Turkey Shootout this weekend in Menomonie, Wis. on Nov. 24-25. UD will face Clarke University in the opener with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
