James Hersch to Perform at UD

The University of Dubuque is excited to welcome James Hersch, a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, as the Woodward Artist-In-Residence for the 2012 fall semester. He will appear in concert on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in Blades Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. In addition to the concert, he will be doing guest performances in Dubuque schools.
James Hersch, a native Minnesotan, has twelve album credits to his name. He's known for his story song releases BackTracks and Innerweather, both featuring his brilliant guitar work and soulful voice. James has a BA in Classical Guitar Performance and holds the Harry Chapin Award for Contributions to Humanity from the National Association for Campus Activities. He is an Artist in Residence at ELCA camps, churches, K-12 schools and communities across the USA. As a composer, he won the 2009 Telly Award for best soundtrack in Paving the Way: The National Park to Park Highway, a documentary broadcast nationwide on PBS.
In 2009 he undertook his 52 Songs in 52 Weeks project in which he literally wrote, produced and released one song each week of the year. Upon completion of the project, he has toured the country presenting the songs and stories born out of that experience. His CD 52 Songs contains the 16 songs voted as favorites by the online followers of 52 Songs in 52 Weeks.
The Woodward Artist-In-Residence program was established through a bequest from the late Mr. William Woodward, a former Trustee of the University. His goal was to have the University use these funds to expose the campus community to artists from a wide variety of fields.
