Spartans Win Season Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team cruised to a 74-51 victory on Friday over Edgewood College. The Spartans ended with 15 out of the 18 players scoring in the victory.
Mollie Whiting led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points after sinking 6-8 attempts at the line. Jessica Goetz added 11 points and three steals as Stephany Remakel grabbed five rebounds. UD never trailed in the opener and scored 44 points in the paint. The Spartans defense held Edgewood to 29.4% shooting from the field and 24 points off their turnovers.
UD out rebounded Edgewood 42-36 and finished the night sinking 25-58 shot attempts and 22-30 free throw attempts (73.3%).
The Spartans will play UW-Platteville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Loras College Tournament.
