Spartans #10 in Final NSCAA North Region Poll

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team was rewarded for its Iowa Conference Tournament Finals appearance with the #10 spot in the final regular season north region poll by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Spartans beat Luther at home and upset Wartburg on the road before being defeated at Loras in the IIAC Championship Game. UD finished the season with an 11-7-2 record.

The Spartans finished third in the Iowa Conference (IIAC) regular season with a record of 4-2-1 and made the Iowa Conference Tournament for the ninth consecutive year. The UD offense was led by Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) with 13 goals, good for 83rd in all of Division III. Working alongside Watkins was Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) who finished 77th in the nation with four game winning goals. As a team, UD finished tied for the lead in the IIAC with seven shutouts and finished second in attendance with an average of 192 per game. Goalkeeper Loisann DeLass (Albuquerque, N.M./Hohenfels) finished fourth in the IIAC in goal against average (1.11), save percentage (.806), and shutouts (4).

UD was ranked for the first time since October 19th, 2010 when the team was #9 in the NSCAA North Region Poll.

Senior Ashley Barwick (Appleton, Wis./Xavier) was recently named First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District and is now eligible for Academic All-America. The Spartans won the Iowa Conference Performer of the Week for Women’s Soccer four times during the 2012 season. Watkins won the award on October 1st and 22nd for her work on the offensive side of the field. DeLass won the defensive award on October 8th. Trish Resner (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian) was awarded for her three goals off the bench to win the offensive award on October 29th.
