Spartans Advance to IIAC Tournament Semifinals

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team broke open a halftime 1-1 tie to capture the opening round of the 2012 IIAC Tournament wit a 4-2 victory over the Luther College Norse on Oyen Field.
Trish Resner scored her second goal of the afternoon at the 56 minute mark on a free kick. Katie Lynn extended the Spartan lead less than a minute later when she scored off a cross assist from Melanie Prudhomme to put UD ahead 3-1. Luther cut the lead to a goal at the 68 minute mark before the Spartans Ashley Barwick scored at 70:44 after an assist off a corner kick from Melissa Sawyer for the final point as UD won 4-2.
UD out shot the visiting Norse 19-10 and had five corner kicks to Luther's one. Lynn led the Spartans with seven shots and three being on goal. Loisann DeLass made four saves in the win.
The Spartans will travel on Wed., Oct. 31 to play at Wartburg in the 2012 IIAC Tournament Semi-finals. Game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start in Waverly.
