Spartans Rally to Win on Senior Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team, put themselves in a deficit to start Tuesday night's match dropping the opening two sets to the visiting Simpson College Storm by scores of 24-26 and 22-25. UD battled back on senior night and collected wins in the final three sets (25-19, 25-19, 16-14) to claim the conference match and improve to 4-3 in league play. 

The Iowa Conference Women's Athlete of the Week, Klaudia Basierak, led all hitters on the night and finished with 18 kills in 70 attempts. She also had 19 digs along with teammate Meggie Schmidt who had 19 digs as well. Schmidt found the open hitter for 42 set assists and Amy Tranel approached the net and finished with a game high seven block assists. 

Basierak has 499 kills on the season in 1664 attacks. Schmidt has 1,092 set assists and a team leading 431 defensive digs. Amy Tranel leads the Spartans with 16 block solos and 58 block assists. The Spartans have a hitting percentage in 2012 of .170 after collecting 1,354 kills in 4,560 attempts.

The Spartans have earned the #4 seed in the IIAC Tournament which will begin with the Spartans playing host on Oct. 30 Vs. Luther or Central.
