Spartans Meet League Leader

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team faced a tough opponent on Tuesday night on the road. UD met the league leading Wartburg Knights with the hosts taking the match 3-0 over the Spartans. Set scores were 20-25, 20-25, 17-25.

Klaudia Basierak led the match with 16 kills, teammate Meggie Schmidt finished with 28 set assists and five digs. Becca Thiltgen led the defensive with 13 digs trailed closely by Basierak who had 11 digs. UD ended the evening with a .150 hitting percentage as the hosts Knights blocked the Spartans seven times in the match.

Basierak has 419 kills in 1,366 kill attempts and has a hitting percentage of .202 in 106 sets played this season. Schmidt leads the Spartans with 889 set assists, 349 defensive digs, and 39 service aces. Amy Tranel has caused some pressure for opponents as she leads UD with 55 blocks or .52 a set.

UD falls to 11-18 overall and 3-3 in the Iowa Conference. The Spartans will travel across town to play in the Loras College Invite on Oct. 19-20. UD will host the Simpson College Storm on Tuesday, Oct. 23 for their final conference match of the season. The Spartans host the JV Iowa Conference Tournament on Oct. 27,
