Spartans Push Unbeaten Kohawks to 4th Set

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team jumped out to an early lead on Wednesday night in Stoltz Sports Center before the visiting Coe College Kohawks rallied back to take the match 3-1. UD led the opening set before Coe captured the set 25-18. The Spartans tied up the match 1-1 when they captured the second set 25-23. The unbeaten in IIAC action Kohawks catured the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21.

The Spartan defense fought a valiant effort during homecoming week with 74 team digs. Becca Thiltgen finished with 20 digs as teammates Meggie Schmidt and Klaudia Basierak both finished with 16 digs. Basierak led the Spartans with 17 kills in 60 attacks. Schmidt finished with 30 set assists as Amy Tranel would finish with seven kills and a team leading four block assists.

Coe improved to 5-0 in conference play as the Spartans dropped to 3-2 and two games out of the IIAC lead.
