McDonald Voted IIAC Offensive Performer of the Week for 3rd Time

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Simpson College golfer Jennifer Gaffney and football player Taylor Nelson have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 7, 2012. The Conference also recognized a total of 14 Performers of the Week across the league's eight fall championship sports.

University of Dubuque senior Nick McDonald (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) was named IIAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week for the third time this season. The Spartans forward finished the week with three goals and one assist. He started the week off with a goal vs. North Park. He then finished the week with two goals and an assist including the game winner in the second overtime against Simpson. The Spartans are a perfect 3-0 in the Iowa Conference and 9-3 overall.

On the season, McDonald has scored 16 goals and assisted on six others. He is currently third in Division III with 38 points and fourth with 16 goals. He is one goal away from tying the school record for goals scored in a career. He has set three school records this season already, including five game winners in a season, 14 game winners in a career, and 214 shots in a career. He is just six shots away from the shots on goal record with 100 and 11 points away from the career points record at 99.

McDonald has now won the Iowa Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week award four times. In addition to his three wins this season, McDonald won the award as a sophomore in 2010.
