Spartans Take 2nd and 3rd in Flight C at IIAC Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Tennis team placed two individuals in the semifinals of Flight “C” Singles at the Iowa Conference Individual Championships. The Spartans Stephanie LoCasto (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) won her semifinals match before falling in the Championships match. Alexandra Dixon (Camanche, Iowa/Camanche) lost in the semifinals but rallied to win the third place match.
Defending Flight “B” Champion, Nichole Schmaltz (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) moved up to Flight “A” but lost her opening round match in three sets. Ashley Schlueter (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), the 2011 Flight “C” Champion, moved up to Flight “B” but lost in the Round of 32.
Doubles teams of Schmaltz/LoCasto and Schlueter/Dixon each won their opening round match in Flight “B” Doubles before losing in the Round of 16.
