Spartans Hold Norse Scoreless

DECORAH, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team scored in the first three quarters on Saturday en route to a 29-0 dominating road victory. UD held the host Norse to just eight first downs and 157 yards of total offense.

The Spartans opening score was a one yard pass from Wyatt Hanus to Miles Hookstead. It was a 22 play drive which drove 94 yards and used 9:49 on the clock. Dakota Runde scored the second touchdown of the afternoon on a 30 yard run. The Spartans took the ball on their own 47 yard line and used four plays and 1:44 on the clock. Hookstead would collect his second touchdown of the day with 8:40 left of the second quarter on a 24 yard grab from Hanus. UD kicked a 38 yard field goal as time expired in the opening half.

The Spartans added another score early in the second half when Chris Bagley caught a 13 yard touchdown pass from Hanus with 11:18 left in the third quarter.

The Spartan defense held the Norse to just 3-14 third down conversions and zero red zone opportunities in the game. The Spartans scored on three of four chances inside the red zone and dominated the possession game 40:53 to Luther's 19:07.

Runde led all rushers with 104 yards in 19 carries. Hookstead led the receiving corp with nine catches for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Hanus completed 25-36 pass attempts for 244 yards. He spread the receptions around to nine different receivers. Punter Doug Lillibridge punted five times for 156 yards which included two inside the Norse 20 yard line. He also kicked off and averaged 55 yards a kick off for the winning Spartans.

UD returns home next week, Oct. 13 for homecoming when they will face the #25-ranked Coe College Kohawks at 3:00 p.m. on Chalmers Field. The Kohawks destroyed the Loras Duhawks 69-7 on Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
