Spartans A Game Out of IIAC Lead

DECORAH, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team moved to within a game of the Iowa Conference lead after posting a 3-1 win over the Luther College Norse on Wednesday night. The Spartans won the first set 25-18 before losing the second set 23-25. The Spartans then rallied to take the match with set wins by scores of 25-19 and 25-22. 

Klaudia Basierak led both teams with a game high 19 kills in 58 attacks. She also led UD's defense with 11 digs and served up three aces. Susan Danieweski and Amy Tranel added nine and eight kills respectively. Meggie Schmidt found the open hitters and finished with 39 set assists in the victory. 

The win improved UD to 3-1 in Iowa Conference action and 10-11 overall this season. UD is in sole possession of third place in the league. The Spartans held the hosts Norse to .087 hitting percentage.

The Spartans will continue their season in Platteville, Wis., this weekend Oct. 5-6 at the UW-Platteville Tourney. UD opens against the hosts UW-P at 4:00 p.m. on Friday before facing St. Catherine University 6:00 p.m. On Saturday UD will play St. Mary's University at noon and continue against UW-La Crosse at 2:00 p.m.
