BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer team had its six game winning streak broke due to a bad three minute stretch where North Park scored three goals. After a scoreless first period, UD and NPU combined to score six goals in 18 minutes. The Spartans would go on to lose the game 4-2 on Tuesday night at Oyen Field. The Spartans are now 8-3-0 on the season and 4-1-0 at home.

After a first period where both teams attacked relentlessly without being able to score, the goals would come and come quickly starting with a UD goal in the 62nd minute after Nick McDonald (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) was held in the box while trying to score on a breakaway. The Spartans Cory Winkler (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) stepped in to take the kick and converted to open up a 1-0 Spartan lead. The goal was the seventh of the season for Winkler.

Continuing to push the pace, the Spartans would once again find themselves with McDonald pulling away from the defense with a breakaway opportunity. This time the North Park defense could not slow him down as he was able to beat the keeper for his 14th goal of the season and a 2-0 UD lead. Assisting on the play was Brandon Wiley (Mannheim, Germany/Mannheim), his team leading sixth of the season.

Moments later the momentum of the game changed as UD was called for a penalty in the box resulting in a successful North Park goal. The next eight minutes were all Fredrik Greiff as he scored three unanswered goals to put North Park up 4-2.

Jake O’Rourke (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gormon) finished the game with two saves and four goals allowed in 90:00 minutes of action.
