BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team began its string of six straight home games off on the right foot with a 4-0 win over Monmouth College on Tuesday night at Oyen Field. Four different Spartans scored goals in the contest. UD improved to 4-5-2 on the season and 2-2-1 at home.

Spartans forward Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) wasted little time getting the offense going with the first goal of the game in the 5th minute of action. Siepler took a pass from Melanie Prudhomme (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda) and beat the keeper to the upper right corner of the goal.

Continuing to pressure, the Spartans once again caught the Monmouth defense out of position with Prudhomme scoring a goal of her own. Following a corner kick, Kim Trinco (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) controlled the ball and left a cross near the goal for Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North). With Watkins drawing heavy attention, she found Prudhomme to put the Spartans ahead 2-0. UD finished the first period with a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks and out shot Monmouth 8-2.

The Spartans started the second half just like they did the first period with two quick goals to start the half. The first goal of the half came on a Lisa Rosas (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia) header off a Kelsey Graefen (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) free kick.

The final goal of the game would come from the Spartans leading scorer as Watkins connected on her eighth goal of the season. The Watkins goal came after Siepler forced the defense towards her and then hit a cross to Watkins leaving her 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper. Watkins has now scored in each of the last four games with seven goals during that period.

UD goalkeeper Loisann DeLass (Albuquerque, N.M./Hohenfels) made four saves in goal on her way to the shutout.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will be looking for their first Iowa Conference win of the season on Saturday, October 6th when Simpson College (7-3, 1-0-0) comes to Oyen Field. Game time is 1:00 pm. Watch LIVE online through GAME CENTRAL.
