BOX SCORE

PELLA, IOWA – For the second consecutive year, the University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team has traveled to face Central only to come away with a tie. This seasons trip to Pella was a 1-1 double overtime thriller with the Spartans out shooting the Dutch 30-14. UD is now 3-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the Iowa Conference.

While scoreless, the first half did have plenty of action as the Spartans outshot Central 12-8 with a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. UD also held a 5-2 corner kick advantage.

The Spartans Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) wasted little time wiping the zero’s off the board in the second half, scoring under three minutes into the period. Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) assisted on the play.  The goal was the seventh of the season for Watkins and her fifth in the last two games. Dubuque would continue to attack but after a Central goal in the 65th minute the teams would find themselves tied up at 1-1 at the end of regulation.

By the end of the second overtime, UD would hold major advantage in every statistical category including out shooting the Dutch 30-14. The Spartans would hold Central without a shot over the last ten minutes of regulation and both ten minute periods of overtime. UD would also finish with a 13-7 lead in shots on goal and hold a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Chelsea Hawkins (Maryville Heights, Mo./Pattonville) would finish with six saves and one goal allowed in 110 minutes of action.

The Spartans three forwards would combine for 17 of the teams 30 shots in the game with Watkins and Kayla Vaughan (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) each finishing with six and Siepler with five.  Melanie Prudhomme (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda) had four shots from the midfield.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will play their first of six straight home games on Tuesday, October 2nd when the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College (3-5-3) come to town.  Game time is 6:00 pm.
