Spartans Win Nail-Biter versus Duhawks, 5-4

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuqe Women's Tennis match versus rival Loras College went down to the wire on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans-Duhawk match was so even that it came down to the third set of the last match of the day. With the score tied at 4-4, Stephanie LoCasto (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) playing at #4 singles, found herself being the last Spartan on the court. LoCasto stepped up and won the third set to give UD a 5-4 victory. UD is now 4-5 on the season and 1-4 in the Iowa Conference.
While LoCasto picked the biggest win of the day, Janine Wegner (Pittsville, Wis./Pittsville) picked up the most dominating victory on the day at #6 singles (6-1, 6-0). Freshman Alexandra Dixon (Camanche, Iowa/Camanche) also picked up a convincing victory at #3 singles (6-0, 6-2). The Spartans fourth win of the game in singles play went to Ashley Schlueter (Hiawatha, Iowa/Kennedy) at #2 singles (6-1, 6-3).
The Spartans lone doubles victory came at #2 with LoCasto and Nichole Schmaltz (Muscatine, iowa/Muscatine) winning 8-2.
UP NEXT: UD will travel to Waverly, Iowa to play Wartburg College (4-3, 0-2) on Tuesday, September 25th at 4:00 pm.
